A Destination

For more than 110 years seafarers from across the globe sought shelter in Sydney's heritage Sailors Home in The Rocks, and today it remains a destination for would be adventurers.

Established in the early '90s by one of Australia's foremost chefs, local and international regulars as well as first time visitors make their way to Sailors to enjoy benchmark Thai.

Our reputation is for bold but carefully balanced flavours, inspired renditions of classic dishes and 'hero' produce in a wonderfully unique setting.

Drop by the canteen upstairs, with one of Sydney's first open kitchens and communal tables, retreat to the sandstone surrounds and soaring ceilings of the downstairs dining room or take a table on the decks with sparkling views of Circular Quay.

Here at Sailors we aim to take you on a journey with Thai food that is strongly influenced by traditional recipes and ingredients, enhanced by Australia's exceptional produce and prepared in the traditional 'slow' style; hand making as much as possible including curry pastes made fresh every day.

Our dining room is elegant and modern yet bears signs of its long history with meals served here for almost 150 years.

Encounter a larger range of carefully crafted Thai classics plus enjoy our award wining wine selection in a relaxed atmosphere amidst the golden sandstone – an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Sydney’s CBD.

In Thailand, food is always best enjoyed with friends and family using shared plates combined carefully to achieve the perfect balance of salty, sour, sweet and spicy elements - even dessert!

A visit to our canteen on George Street makes for an easy lunch or dinner. It’s informal, fast, friendly and fun.

There’s a long, gleaming communal table beside a buzzing open kitchen. Come early or late to snare a seat on the sunny balcony and enjoy views of Circular Quay.

Our canteen also offers a limited takeaway menu that can be ordered online. There are no reservations so just come on in!

I love to eat, but more than that, I love variety in what I eat, and I love the integrity of produce that has been grown or raised by someone who cares. Reservations

We accept reservations for the Dining Room but not for the Canteen. A credit card authority is required for tables of 5 or more guests.

For groups of 9 or more guests, including special functions and events, please contact us and complete our group dining form.

Confirmations

We will attempt to contact you within 24 hours of your reservation to re-confirm but if we are unable to reach you, please contact us. We reserve the right to cancel unconfirmed reservations.

Privacy Policy

When you make or change a reservation we will send you an email or SMS. We send an occasional newsletter or promotional message but we won't share your information and you can always opt out.

Travelling to Sailors Thai

Car

The closest carpark is at the Overseas Passenger Terminal but please check the cruise schedule as the carpark is closed when a ship is in port. Alternatively the Clocktower Carpark is nearby.

Train or Ferry

Circular Quay train station is only a few minutes walk from the restaurant. Most ferry services also terminate at Circular Quay. You can plan your travel by public transport at the Transport NSW web site.
